Ms. Hidayu Bedesly and Mr. Jinuin Jainis

KENINGAU: Two teachers of Early Childhood Education (ECE) programme at Keningau Vocational College, Ms. Hidayu Bedesly and Mr. Jinuin Jainis, will be presenting their teaching innovation at 17th Annual CamTESOL Virtual Conference on English Language Teaching.

It will be virtually hosted by IDP Education that is headquartered in Cambodia. The conference which will take place on 5-7 February 2021 boasts an average audience of 1,700 persons annually.

Ms. Hidayu and Mr. Jinuin who often go by their respective nicknames, Yuyu and Upik, earned their bachelor’s degrees at Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI). This dynamic duo was experimenting with specially designed geometric blocks that they referred to as “IQ Shape” to improve children’s literacy.

They attempted to study whether the teaching aid could help children become familiar with alphabets particularly in recognizing each letter as well as pronouncing the letters correctly.

Since they are both training their students to become preschool and kindergarten teachers, they feel it is important for them to also enhance their research skills so they can guide their students better.

In fact, their students have presented at various in-person and virtual conferences in Asia and Europe and many have competed in local innovation contests.

These two best friends represent some of the traits that 21st century teachers should possess. Ms. Hidayu, an aspiring YouTuber, seeks to explore the platform as a way of creating exciting video tutorials for her students and for other teachers who are interested in her methods.

Mr. Jinuin, on the other hand, is a trailblazing educator who is breaking the gender barriers in early childhood education programme that is usually seen as a field meant for female teachers only.

Their long-term plan is to revolutionize ECE in several aspects such as teacher training approach and educational resources.

The director of the college, Mr. Johari @ Jaibet bin Sabin, applauded the two teachers for their determination in improving ECE practice through academic activities like conference presentation and research.

The school which has its own preschool known as “Gemilang” is committed in pursuing ECE by offering a training programme specialized in children’s development and providing the best learning experience and care to its pupils.
